Job DescriptionThe ideal job for me
June 11th, 2026

On my darkest days I find myself browsing the Anthropic careers page a lot.

And lately, I find myself wondering if I were to take a job what would it be. I'm starting to develop a taste for sales, but I don't see myself as an AE. My background is technically a software engineer, but I don't really see myself as an engineer anymore.

Last week a friend has suggested something interesting: write a job description for an ideal role and work backwards from that. The idea is to use this to navigate a career search and to see what companies are posting roles that match this.

About [insert company name]

Our company's north star is re-defining what humans are capable of. In this moment, it means fully leaning into AI and building the best-in-class tools and products to achieve this mission. Our latest product is an AI co-worker that has hit $1M in annualized revenue in the first month of launching, and we're continuing to double down on research to bring more software and hardware products to market.

What you'll do

  • Sell our products and build a direct channel to valuable leading indicators
  • Work with customers directly on deploying our products into their teams post-sales
  • Treat every customer deployment as an N of 1 case study and figure out the strategy that works best for them
  • Brainstorm new product lines and initiatives with our product leads
  • Develop ways to reach our target audience and invest in campaigns that drive direct revenue
  • Build whatever is needed by our customers for them to be successful

Why this role is different

This role is different because it's a little bit of everything, but we're not asking you to be mediocre at everything. Your role is a mix of sales, customer success, marketing, product, engineering. And we expect you to be at the top 1% in each. You'll know when you are because that's how we've hired across all departments.

How you'll know this is working

  • 30 days: Become the go-to POC on 2 major customer deployments
  • 60 days: Become the go-to POC on all customer deployments
  • 90 days: Fully own $1M+ in company revenue end-to-end and growing it aggressively

Who you are

  • Ambitious and motivated
  • Extremely tool-oriented and scrappy
  • Great communicator
  • Someone I'd put in front of a customer
  • Must-have: at least 1 year of technical experience
  • Nice-to-have: 3+ years technical experience / CS degree / ex-founder
